Château d'Arpaillargues***
Gérard and Isabelle Savry have succeeded in creating from the original Hôtel d’Agoult a place where day and night merge blissfully into one other. Today restored and given a new look, the Château d’Arpaillargues is not only an historical site but an elegant, quiet hotel close to the château of the First Dukes of France. Between the sea, Provence and the Cévennes,
Uzès is a veritable jewel of art and history at the centre of a triangle formed by the cities of Alès, Avignon and Nîmes.
Bordered by vineyards and the garrigue, Uzès overlooks the little valley of the Eure, whence flowed the spring which, during the Roman era, fed Nîmes via an aqueduct, the most conspicuous part of which is the Pont du Gard.
The 26 bedrooms and 3 suites are air-conditioned and equipped with a television, telephone, safe and minibar.
In the courtyard of the Château, the hotel offers a bar and steakhouse where you can, according to season, choose a table for a Provençal- style meal. The warmer, vaulted rooms on the ground floor welcome you with just as much charm. Now add to this idyllic scene spacious grounds planted with trees, a wide pool and a tennis court. Three conference rooms, which can accommodate up to 80 people, are available for seminars and other events.
And remember, it was in Uzès that Racine wrote the famous line: “here, our nights are more beautiful than your days.”
