Kite Surfing, Leucate France
Kite surfing suspends you between sea and sky, between the 'Mistral' and 'Tramontane' winds. You don't need to be an expert to enjoy this sport, which is taught in 23 schools in the region and is accessible to all, thanks to the latest safety innovations. The region offers around 15 areas where you can practice kite surfing: in Leucate-La Franqui, Marseillan, Gruissan (on an inland lake), Espiguette, La Grande Motte and Port Camargue.
Two international events, the "WORLD OF WIND SPORTS" and the "EUROPEAN JUNIOR CUP" attract thousands of spectators to the beaches of Leucate-La Franqui and Saint Pierre la Mer. Today, there are more than 2000 graduate licence holders, out of the 7000 people who make up the F.F.V.L., coming from 15 clubs and 24 professional schools. Several champions of France. Europe and the world wear the colours of Languedoc-Roussillon.
Thanks to the wind that blows nearly 300 days a year, Leucate has become a favourite haunt of water sports enthusiasts. Kite-surfing, windsurfing... enthusiasts can practice on the lagoon, but the waves of the Mediterranean are attracting more people every year and they can learn with any of the wind sports schools in the resort.
