Fishing
Lozère has 2800 km of rivers, torrents and streams, teeming with fish. The beauty of the surroundings and the number and variety of the rivers make the department one of Europe’s premier river fishing regions.
Pyrénées-Orientales has a wide diversity of fishing spots from the slow meandering rivers of Roussillon to the mountain torrents and lakes (more than 60 natural lakes). Here, you can enjoy quality fishing under the Catalan sun.
Herault has 1500 km of rivers (750 km of Category 1 and 750 km of Category 2 rivers), 1500 hectares of lakes and lagoons, including the vast Salagou lake, and 365 days of fishing per year thanks to an ideal climate.
From the Cévennes mountains to the Camargue plain, all types of fishing are possible here in a wide variety of landscapes and rivers.
Lozère offers three ponds for tourist fishing:
The Bastide pool (‘étang de la Bastide’), in the east of the department;
The Saint Léger du Malzieu pool (‘étang de Saint Léger du Malzieu’) in the north;
The Barrandon pool (‘étang de Barrandon’) in the centre, on Mont Lozère. The Barrandon pool has an area reserved for beginners and fly fishing practice. There’s also a refuge open to fishermen and walkers.
