Bessèges
In mining country, the walk between the pine and chestnut trees, is full of surprises, including the view point of Le Ronc-Rouge, which owes its name to the area’s deep red earth, and the Chapel of Saint Laurent.
On the border of the departments of Gard, Ardeche and of Lozère, the town of Besseges is beautifully situated on the escarpment of Cevennes, in the heart of the Ceze Valley.
The rugged slopes are densely planted with pine trees giving the area a mountainous aspect. A paradise for hill walkers, it is scattered with old mine buildings, isolated villages and rivers as clear as a teardrop.
