Aumont-Aubrac (Lozère)

Les Portes de l’Aubrac Aumont-Aubrac

Aumont-Aubrac was a former stopover place along the route to Santiago de Compestella on the Chemin du Puy. The most famous pilgrimage paths in the Western world, the routes to Santiago de Compestella, towards Spain, are classified as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Leave the station and discover the place where pilgrims stopped to regain their strength before climbing the arid, sun-baked, plateaux. The pastoral landscape around Aubrac, with its lush green meadows, has provided a resting place for pilgrims since the Middle Ages. First, take the GR®65 - route de Santiago de Compostella and then the GRP®400 -Tour of the Aubrac Mountains.

Take care at the junction of the two GRs – by the Four Routes.

See on the way :

  • The village of Aumont-Aubrac
  •  La Chaze de Peyre, a granite cross in the village square.
  • The Bastide chapel near to La Chaze de Peyre

This itinerary was taken from the Topo-Guides FFRandonnée GR®65 and the GRP® 400.
