Fabre Museum - Montpellier, France
The Fabre museum, founded in 1828, was then enriched by two other donations, one from Antoine Valedau who gave works by artists such as Rubens, Steen, Ruisdaël… along with Bourdon, Greuze, Girodet …
Then that of the patron Alfred Bruyas, who donated paintings by Corot, Millet, Courbet, Delacroix, David, Géricault, Ingres…
Renovated and enlarged, it opened its doors again in 2007 as a 21st century museum, equipped with new technologies and offering a themed journey through art history.
The exhibition halls bring together Flemish and Dutch paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries, Italian paintings, from the Renaissance to the 17th century, French paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries, 19th century modern art with halls devoted to Cabanel, Courbet, Bazille, Jean Hugo, 20th century and contemporary paintings including Simon Hantaï, the Support-Surface movement, François Morellet…
And concluding with a unique collection of fabrics from Pierre Soulages.
