Paul Valéry Museum - Sète, France
The Paul Valéry Museum in Sète is housed in a contemporary building designed by the architect, Guy Guillaume. It was inaugurated in November 1970 but has been recently refurbished to enlarge the public viewing galleries and to introduce a refreshed presentation of the collections.
The Paul Valéry Museum holds more than 4000 pieces of work including artcollections from the 19th century (Cabanel, Courbet, Marquet, Jongkind, etc.) to the present day (Desnoyer, Dezeuze, Combas, Di Rosa, etc.). There is also an image bank containing more than a thousand works of art from the likes of Doré, Degas, Cézanne, Matisse and Dubout, a collection of the work of Paul Valéry and a collection of popular art and traditions, including jousting battles and model replicas of boats.
Each year, the museum holds 3 to 4 exhibitions as well as different events in the grounds such as conferences, literary festivals, concerts and poetry recitals.
