Aiguèze

Aiguèze has one side perched on a cliff overlooking the gorges of the Ardèche and the other turned to face the Côtes du Rhône vineyards. The double aspect of this former fortress will charm you with its simplicity as well as its exceptional setting.

Listed as one of the most beautiful villages of France, Aiguèze, which stands above the Ardèche has a number of architectural treasures: the former hospital, which is an opulent building, a typical street in the village, La Combe des Oiseaux, which has a magnificent archway, the little square in the heart of the village with its Calvary, the sculptor’s house, the restored church...

The view over the Ardèche from the battlements is magnificent. A restored walkway leads down to the river. From there you can see the remains of the fortifications, the towers rising proudly above the rocky promontory. These towers look out over the Ardèche, and the traces of ancient buildings show that Aiguèze must have been inaccessible on this side. They have recently been restored.

The ruins of the castle can also be seen. Visit the nearby charming valley of the Cèze, a river on whose banks you will find lovely villages such as Montclus or La Roque-sur-Cèze.
