Evol

Even today, Evol retains the signs of its mountain character in its pastoral activities and its houses with their walls of schist and their stone-slab roofs. Cutting these slabs kept the inhabitants busy during the winter.

Evol - villages south France Evol - villages south France

One of the most beautiful villages of France. The little medieval hamlet of Evol is attached to the market-town of Olette which still has two towers remaining from the "Bastida Nova" fortress. Evol displays remarkable uniformity in its architecture.

It has jealously guarded its 13th-century feudal castle which was built at the foot of a hillside, one of the foothills of Mount Coronat. It is situated on the flanks of a garrigue (Mediterranean scrubland) with cork oaks in an angle formed by a very deep ravine. Evol also has a 15th-century Romanesque church and presbytery.
