One of the most beautiful villages of France. La Garde-Guerin is an ancient strategic site on the Via Regordana which ran from the Languedoc hillsides to the Massif Central. It has retained its watchtower as well as its settlement and its stony streets.

This old fortified village was founded in the 10th century to guard the plateau of Lozère, which was infested with hordes of brigands. The citadel then became home to a community of men-at-arms, known as 'pariers' and recruited from among the nobility. In exchange for payment of a toll they would escort travellers.
