La Roque-sur-Cèze

In the north of the department of Gard, La Roque-sur-Cèze, a sun-drenched village that looks very Provençal, was built on a rocky spur overlooking the Cèze.

Listed as one of the most beautiful villages of France, La Roque sur Cèze, little medieval village, surrounded by vineyards and forests, offers a magnificent view over the Sautadet Falls, themselves listed as a nature site. These limestone rocks are five million years old.

The village with its steep, paved streets, its houses of pale stone with their ornamental tiling, is dominated by its castle and its 11th century chapel. Remains of the ramparts can still be seen. Below the village a narrow medieval bridge crosses the river. With eleven arches, the bridge is listed as an historic monument.
