Lagrasse

Lagrasse is crossed by the river Orbieu in a landscape of vines and hillsides typical of the Corbières region. Over the river stretches a bridge linking the village of Lagrasse and its old market-halls to its abbey, an architectural gem from the medieval period.

Lagrasse Abbey was established in the valley of the Orbieu in the 8th century. Situated as it was on the Carolingian kingdom’s' frontiers with Spain, it played a crucial role.

Today the village as a whole has retained its medieval charm, with its ancient houses, the remains of its ramparts and its bridges, one dating from the 11th century, and the old monastery. The monastery buildings date from several periods: indeed their building extends from the pre-Romanesque period up to the 18th century.

Lagrasse is a village of taste, boasting its Corbières wine, but also a village of skills that its craftsmen will be very happy to help you discover.
