Sainte Enimie - Gorges du Tarn
Sainte Enimie is an ancient market town that owes its name and origins to a medieval legend concerning a Merovingian princess... Remains of the monastery, which became an abbey in the 14th century, include the Romanesque chapter house and the Ste Madeleine chapel.
In the village, with its medieval houses and Renaissance windows, stands the 12th-century Romanesque church which houses some beautiful statues. The town has retained its narrow back streets and arched passageways. A steep pathway leads up to the hermitage where Ste Enimie, having been cured of leprosy by the miraculous powers of the Burle spring, ended her days away from the world.
