Pic Saint Loup

The Pic Saint Loup, overlooking the inland areas of Montpellier, is a craggy mass of limestone slabs, valleys and ridges. From the top there are fabulous views over the Mediterranean.

From the Pic Saint Loup summit (658m), the view extends from the Cévennes to the Mediterranean sea. Ripe for climbing and hiking, this area boasts a number of nature trails and a wide variety of rare fauna and flora.

Perched at its peak is Montferrand Castle, built on roman remains once owned by the Counts de Toulouse. The ruins have become a popular tourist haunt, offering panoramic views over the Causse de l’Hortus (Hortus Plateau) and the plains of Montpellier and Saint Mathieu de Tréviers.

The Pic Saint Loup is also known for his wine : Pic Saint Loup wine.
