This sailing port is one of the largest in Europe by surface area. Follow in the wake of the Phoenician and Greek sailors of ancient times. See the amazing white cliff that gave its name to Leucate, and make a stopover between the sea and the lagoon.

Leucate, nestling between vines and oyster beds on the shore of a lagoon, has the feel of a typical Mediterranean village.

The seaside holiday-spot of Leucate Plage is sheltered by the soaring cliffs which overlook the resort. If you’re mad about waterskiing, head to nearby La Franqui, or if sailing is your thing, go to Port Leucate, between the sea and lagoon, which offers a marina and sailing school and naturist centres.

Vast sandy beaches, windsurfing, sand surfing, funboarding, bike hire are also on offer, as well as hiking trails to the Cap Leucate nature reserve, and organised visits to the oyster beds.
