The place where holidays never take a holiday

On the beach in Languedoc Roussillon: holidays don’t get much better than this! As well as family resorts, the region’s coast is also dotted with health spas and ancient fishing villages, backed by a hinterland of untouched natural beauty.

Port de Plaisance de Saint Cyprien Saint Cyprien - France Roussillon holiday

Beach Languedoc

Languedoc Roussillon is perfect for South of France beach holidays : more than 40 of the region’s beaches fly the blue flag, the European award for clean bathing water. Regattas, cruises, fishing contests and wind surfing events draw the crowds to lively modern resorts such as Le Grau-du-Roi-Port-Camargue, La Grande-Motte with its bold architecture, Le Cap d'Agde, and Gruissan, Leucate, La Franqui, Port Barcarès and Saint-Cyprien.

This is a land where traditions are still part of everyday life. In Sète and Palavas-les-Flots you can watch teams of fishermen jousting with each other from their boats in water tournaments. In the ancient fishing ports, from Le Grau-du-Roi-Port-Camargue to Collioure, the pace of life has barely changed for centuries. In this region, enthusiasts can enjoy the ‘cult’ of yachting in all its forms: coastal or offshore sailing, sea fishing off a boat or from the shore… and for those who prefer just to watch, there’s still plenty to enjoy: sporting and leisure regattas, boat shows, and stages of the Sailing ‘Tour de France’… Sète also moves to the rhythms of the sea. A network of canals converges on this ancient town, which has a commercial and fishing port as well as a sailing harbour.

For sailors, South of France is a paradise

With a vast number of marinas and sheltered anchorages...

There’s an enormous choice of different places to stop during your Languedoc Roussillon holiday-afloat. In total, there are 30,000 marina berths in 27 harbours. Port-Camargue, next door to Grau-du-Roi, is one of the largest marinas in Europe with 20,000 moorings. The sailing resorts are a hive of activity, all year round. There are friendly regattas for the family, or more competitive racing if you want it. You can visit boat shows or watch stages of the Sailing ‘Tour de France’ and the Clairfontaine Trophy. In the bay of Aigues-Mortes, you can watch training sessions for the America's Cup. All the marinas welcome visiting yachtsmen, and many offer superb facilities.
