Anduze
Because of its location, Anduze, a town full of history and tradition, can be considered to be the Gateway to the Cévennes... Megalithic tombs, menhirs, a Gaulish fort ("oppidum"), a Roman camp: a whole host of monuments bear witness to its past. All that remains of its ramparts, which were destroyed in 1624, is the clock tower, but you can still enjoy strolling through its picturesque and lively back streets…
In the surrounding countryside, ramblers can get away from it all by following the "drailles" – ancient drovers’ roads – with their perfumes of the Cévennes. The limpid waters of the Gardon can also offer plenty of quiet corners for bathing.
The potteries of Anduze can lay claim to a long and honourable tradition, most especially for their vases decorated with garlands. Anduze vases reflect the exuberance of Florence, tempered with the restraint of the Cévennes...
