Georges Brassens - French famous people
The song-writer, inspired as he was by the traditions of the troubadours, often celebrated his town by singing songs about Sète. Having sung « Bury me on the beach at Sète », he was buried in the town’s Py cemetery upon his death in 1981. Sète, in turn, celebrated its connexions with Brassens by setting up the Espace Brassens.
Here, making the most of the latest sound and video technologies, the visitor can listen to Brassens through head-phones as he guides them round his town and through his work. At the end of the visit, in a small cinema, there are films of some of his concerts.
Sète was the cradle for many artists, some of whom were born there : Paul Valéry, Jean Vilar, Maurice Clavel, Hervé Di Rosa, Robert Combas, Pierre François, André Cervera, François Liguori, whilst others came there to live : Pierre Soulages, François Desnoyer, Agnès Varda, Daniel Deleuze...
