Gruissan
From early morning, a large congregation gathers in the church for a ceremonial mass.
The fishermen make their way along the nave one by one, holding a small ceremonial boat nailed to a stick in one hand, and a lighted candle in the other, to meet the fisherman’s patron saint.
To represent the pitching of the boat, they walk with a rocking motion, accompanied by a fanfare. The ritual is said to guarantee a season of good catches.
