The Procession of La Sanch
This impressive ritual, which dates back five centuries, takes place every year in Perpignan, ancient capital of the Kingdom of Majorca, on Good Friday.
Founded at the beginning of the 15th century, the Brotherhood of La Sanch was originally devoted to comforting prisoners sentenced of death. To protect their anonymity, the condemned wore tall pointed cowls and red tunics identical to the Brothers who escorted them to their execution.
The Procession of La Sanch still takes place, as a testimony to the strength of the Catalans' faith.
