The Cap Leucate Vineyards
In the Aude, stretching from the Leucate plateau, a remarkable natural site included in the Natura 2000 network, to the schistose highlands of Quintillan, seven different kinds of soil characterise the 1400 hectares of vineyards controlled by the Leucate cooperative. They range from the low rounded pebbled terraces of Caves, La Palme and Fitou, to the more limestone-based lands of Roquefort des Corbières, Treilles and Feuilla.
170 winemakers work this land, giving rise to five AOC varieties:
- Muscat de Rivesaltes since 1936
- Rivesaltes since1936
- Fitou since 1948
- Corbières since 1985
- Languedoc since 2007
The number of different wines produced locally has grown to 75.
The variety of names, characteristics of the soils and the region's winemaking history of the Chai La Prade means the types of vine cultivated in our vineyards can be used to make distinctive and optimal wines, such as the historical carignan, grenache noir, syrah, mourvèdre, cinsault, grenache blanc, muscat petit grain, muscat d’Alexandrie, maccabeu, malvoisie; but also the more recently established viognier, chardonnay, cabernet-sauvignon, sauvignon, caladoc, marselan and merlot.
