On the edges of the ancient delta of the Hérault, Bagnas lakes, located in the town of Agde, have been listed as a nature reserve since 1983.

Spread over 561 hectares, the Bagnas National Nature Reserve offers a wide variety of natural Mediterranean coastline environments. It is also a valuable international migration site, where over 250 species of birds can be observed, from the rare such as the osprey and the black stork, to the more populous — flamingos, swallows, avocets... In August, 10,000 water birds regularly occupy the reserve.
